The film is centred around the warm, beautiful and loving teacher Angele, who like an angel does not deny anyone her love, and thereby gets a shameful reputation. But she survives it all forgiving everyone and despite the proclamations of the Soviet powers, she does not renounce her Christian faith. One of the Lithuanian resistance fi ghters is called Jesus for his likeness to the saviour.
