The art collection “Identity. Lithuanian Contemporary Art” presents works made by the well known artists of the Lithuanian Artists‘ Association. The main goals of the exhibition are to show richness and versatility of Lithuanian visual art, personal identity and organization importance for the creators’ society.
The exposition of the paintings is formed from the works of the Lithuanian classics of painting, also the representatives of the middle and the young generations. Diversity of Lithuanian painting represents expressionistic tendencies of all the Lithuanian fine arts of the XX-XI centuries, also the examples of abstract art and mixed techniques of painting such as assemblages, collages, distinctive concords of painting and graphics.
Lithuanian graphics exposes variety of techniques, plastic and style. Not only the most popular techniques of graphics can be recognized in these works, such as etching, aquatint, woodcut and linocut, but also some original technical experiments and expressive works of screen-print can be seen.
Contemporary Lithuanian sculpture is presented by the artists of the middle and the young generations. Considerations of the existence and motives of the history of Lithuania arise in the works of the Lithuanian classics of sculpture and the pieces of the young generation reflect a playful, ironical treatment of traditional techniques, also variations of man‘s figure and unexpected solutions of plastic.
The art of textile that currently experiences a true revival of expression, subjects and techniques is presented through the works that reflect classical techniques and abstract possibilities.
The variety of the generations, artistic expressions and stylistics allow viewers to perceive not only the tendencies of Lithuanian fine arts that were common for several recent decades. Exhibitions of the mobile art collections also are prepared keeping in mind the importance of the jubilee because Lithuanian Artists Association was established in September, 1935 and since then is meaningful to the whole community of professional artists.
